Kenneth enjoys being the Vice President of the Long Island 9/11 Memorial Committee, a voluntary position that challenges him to use his experiences, skills and heart. Ken works diligently with the Long Island 9/11 Memorial Committee in taking steps forward to bring the Memorial to all Long Islanders.
Kenneth is currently the past President of the Long Island Association of Retired NYC Firefighters, a prominent position he held with distinction, not only from its members, but the community as a whole. In his eight-year tenure as President, Ken was responsible for many of the community oriented activities undertaken by the association and played a key role in the organization’s overall contribution to Long Island.
Ken’s accomplished career in service has prepared him for his current position. Ken is a retired New York City Fire Officer and a retired U.S. Coast Guard, Master Chief Port Securityman (E-9). He managed various firefighting units throughout New York City and numerous U.S. Coast Guard Units on Long Island and Connecticut. Ken was the Executive Officer of Reserve Unit Shinnecock, a position seldom held by an enlisted member.
Despite his active role with the Long Island Association of Retired NYC Firefighters and the Long Island 9/11 Memorial, Kenneth still finds time to be an active member of various other community organizations, such as the Suffolk County Veterans Advisory Committee, American Legion, Fleet Reserve Association, AMVETS and the past President of the Long Island Chapter of the U.S. Coast Guard Chief Petty Officers Association. Perhaps what stands out the most about Ken isn’t the time that he gives, but the care that he dedicates to his activities. This is most evident in his hard won battle to secure continued health insurance for the widows of retired fire fighters, which was signed into law by Governor Pataki in 2001. He works constantly to see that their varied needs are appropriately addressed. |
